Newfire Strengthens Advisory Services with Erik Hjortshoj as Consulting CPTO and SVP of Engineering
CAMBRIDGE, MA – Sept. 1, 2025 – Newfire Global Partners, a leading advisory and IT services firm serving the healthcare industry, is pleased to announce the addition of Erik Hjortshoj as Consulting Chief Product and Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering within its Advisory Services Team. Hjortshoj brings more than 30 years of experience in advanced technology leadership, spanning AI, machine learning, and software engineering, applied to real-world healthcare solutions, having repeatedly guided organizations from early growth to enterprise scale.
Erik is one of those critical leaders who can bridge deep technical problem-solving with big-picture product strategy. Erik got to know us, and we got to know him, while he worked with Newfire as a client in his last two companies. His background at the junction of healthcare technology, foundational AI, and product leadership shows where Newfire’s Advisory Services practice is going—helping companies integrate AI with product strategy to deliver real business value. At Newfire, Hjortshoj will focus on helping clients turn ambitious product visions into practical, scalable solutions. His work will span product design, management, and engineering leadership, with a particular emphasis on responsible use of agentic AI and seamless integration with payer and provider systems.

Background on Erik Hjortshoj
Hjortshoj has served as CTO at six health and wellness companies since 2007, beginning as a founding team member at AmWell, where he helped launch one of the first fully in-network telehealth platforms. He later guided technology strategy and product development at ShapeUp, Wellist, Secure Senior Connections, and Grouper (formerly Element3 Health).
Earlier in his career, Hjortshoj conducted research in natural language processing, machine learning, and information retrieval at Inso and Burning Glass. His work on large-scale data aggregation powered labor market insights used by academic institutions, state governments, and recruiters worldwide. Alongside his technical leadership, Hjortshoj is recognized for mentoring teams, turning around distressed projects, and aligning technology with business outcomes.
Outside of work, Hjortshoj applies his problem-solving mindset to carpentry and home projects, and channels his drive for performance into motorsports. He is a passionate race car driver and a national champion in PCA ClubRacing’s Spec Cayman class.
